After Indonesia, it is Malaysia’s turn to host the ASEAN-OSHNET for the next three years. We hope to continue the legacy of promoting OSH in the ASEAN countries through cooperation and collaboration with
the National OSH centres as well as enhancing their capability in training and research. As the voice of ASEAN countries, the ASEAN-OSHNET offers coordinated stance in facing global OSH challenges and threats while aiding convergence of ideas, information and knowledge, which will elevate OSH in ASEAN countries to a higher level in the long run.
Research and collaboration have been done and should be continued. Reports, statistics, case studies and short profile of workplace accidents should be shared among member countries to facilitate exchange of information. Active participation from everybody is of utmost importance if we want to achieve the ASEAN-OSHNET objectives. It is our shared-responsibility to protect the future.
We will continue to coordinate research in OSH and organise OSH training on cost-sharing basis to enhance OSH promotion in ASEAN countries. We will identify donors, internally and at international levels and streamline the designed activities and develop more programme that will benefit the member countries as a whole. We will facilitate the development and harmonisation of OSH standards among member countries. We have firm commitment to help member countries in pursuing the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) and implementing the OSH-MS. Strengthening the mechanisms of OSH inspections in the workplace is another priority that will be looked into.
We look forward to work with everybody, since continuos efforts, collaboration and partnership among member countries are vital to ensure the success of ASEAN-OSHNET.
As we try to improve, we have given the site a new look, with additional features for easy access and smooth browsing. The look of the site may differ but it will continue to serve as a vehicle for the exchange of information on OSH standards, expertise, training programmes, curriculum, and as a depository for statistics and case studies.
The secretariat is currently based at NIOSH, Malaysia, an institute that was established by the government to spearhead the creation of safe and healthy work culture in Malaysia.
